How to know your air compressor needs replaced

With summer approaching soon, now is the right time to ask yourself if your car’s air compressor needs replaced. If you live in a state where it is unbearably hot, then not having a working A/C is certainly miserable. With the steady flow of a working A/C, you’re able to keep yourself cool in the blistering heat, but when it’s not working, you’re left to drive off and arrive at your destination drowning in sweat.

There can be many causes or reasons as to why your car’s A/C isn’t working properly. We often recommend bringing your vehicle into our Quick Stop service stations to let our mechanics take a look. Normally, the A/C isn’t a problem you can fix yourself unless you know your car’s inner workings.

Signs something is wrong with your compressor

A bad compressor’s symptoms are normally quite obvious, and for us, it is an easy fix. So here are some signs to look out for if you think your A/C might be out of commission.

  1. Your car is hot: The first and often easiest sign to notice is your car being hot and the air blowing warm. If you have a bad compressor, it doesn’t properly regulate the temp of the AC. Consequently, the air blows hot, and the overall flow also decreases. There are some reasons this happens, like low refrigerant or a bad compressor.
  2. Loud noises from the A/C: If your AC is running and you notice a rattling type sound or a loud noise that isn’t normal, then this is normally a sign that the HVAC is bad. There are many components to the inside of the AC system, but in this case, we almost always recommend replacing the system as a whole.
  3. Your A/C is leaking: Finally, if your system is leaking, which doesn’t mean what you think it does, this is also a sign of a needed replacement. If your refrigerant runs or leaks out, then the AC starts blowing warm air. Overall, this can be very dangerous for your health because chemicals leak into the air around you.
